Dr Simon graduated from Medical College Thrissur. He finished his residency in Internal Medicine from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and was granted MD Internal Medicine. After completing specialist registrar training in Wessex Deanery he was awarded Certificate of Completion of Training in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology by the Joint Committee for Higher Medical Training. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and Royal College of Physicians London. Dr Simon has worked as a Course Director for several courses, and is an educational supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. He is an examiner for undergraduates for University College London and for MRCP PACES exam. He is an assessor for post graduate trainees for Health Education East of England. He has held various roles; Trust Guardian for Safe Working, Divisional Lead for Governance and Divisional Lead Appraiser. He is currently the Clinical Director for Acute Medicine and is the Trust Lead for Mortality Review & Lead for Medical Examiner Service at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital. He was instrumental in developing SMART electronic tool for mortality review which combines SJR methodology developed by the Royal College of Physicians and the Medical Examiner Immediate scrutiny recommended by the Royal College of Pathologists. His work around simulation training for postgraduate trainees was awarded third prize nationally and his work in reducing mortality for patients with fracture neck of femur was awarded first prize nationally. He is an Editorial Board member for journals and is a Site Principle Investigator for clinical studies. He has expertise in Diabetes-new therapies, Management of Diabetes in pregnancy, Obesity, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders. His other areas of interest are Patient flow in Acute hospitals, Same Day Emergency Care, Simulation training and Patient safety.
