CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: COACH FOR THE WILLEM C. VIS INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL ARBITRATION MOOT TEAM
New Vision University School of Law Announces a Call for Applications for the Position of Coach for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team.
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional to lead the student team and ensure their thorough preparation for one of the world’s most prestigious legal competitions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and manage the team selection, preparation, and participation in the competition.
- Introduce and teach students the fundamental principles of international commercial arbitration and international contract law, including the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), as well as relevant research sources and methodologies.
- Develop a plan for preparing written submissions (memoranda) and organize regular working sessions with the team.
- Review and analyze students’ written submissions, provide constructive feedback, and offer general guidance on memorandum writing techniques.
- Plan practical exercises for oral advocacy, organize Practice Moots, and identify and invite appropriate judges (arbitrators) to participate in these sessions.
- Provide regular consultations to team members and remain available to address their questions throughout the preparation period.
- Support the team throughout the competition stages, including participation in Pre-Moots and attendance at the final competition in Vienna.
- Perform organizational and administrative duties related to the competition, including monitoring the registration process and other competition deadlines, liaising with the University administration, assisting with travel arrangements, and contributing to the management of the team’s budget.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Strong interest in and knowledge of international commercial arbitration and contract law.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate successfully with students.
- Previous experience participating in the Vis Moot, including participation in the oral rounds in Vienna.
- Previous coaching experience in Moot Court competitions is an advantage. Experience specifically related to participating in or coaching a Vis Moot team will be considered a strong asset.
- Availability and sufficient time commitment to meet with students regularly throughout the preparation period.
Working Conditions:
- Engagement Period: September 21, 2026 – March 30, 2027.
- Compensation: To be agreed upon individually.
- Reporting: The Coach will work under the supervision of the academic staff of the New Vision University School of Law.
